WHAT GETS INSPECTED

• Crane pre-use and defects that affect lifting
• Tower, hammerhead, luffing jib and self-erecting machines — OEM charts below
• Rigging and below-the-hook gear
• Outriggers, mats, mast ties and supporting surface
• Exclusion zone and access
• Communication equipment
• PPE used on the lift
• Corrective actions from incidents and near misses on lifting work

FREQUENCY

• Crane pre-use — each shift before the hook is loaded. 14.35.
• Rigging — before it takes load.
• Lift area — at setup. At least weekly on a standing tower. After a change to the pad, the zone or the access.
• Employer-controlled gear, tools and vehicles — recorded interval. Out of service when they fail.
• Workplace the employer controls — monthly, with worker participation where a committee or representative exists. 3.5.

DEFICIENCY CLASS

• Immediate / out of service — affects lifting, access, or a safety device. The crane or the gear stays down.
• Before next shift — does not affect this lift. Will affect the next.
• Scheduled — named person, named date. Not a parking lot.
