Cite. The drawing on this table wins.
User manuals from the manufacturer. Do not copy a hire-yard note as this site’s method.
PURPOSE
Stop a corner or nontypical table from being flown on the typical cycle. WorkSafeBC and BC Crane Safety call these out as a separate plan.
SCOPE
The crew when the table is a corner, infill, reduced-width, or any table the drawing or the engineer marks nontypical. Do GOSPEL-SWP-028 as well. This SWP does not replace it.
This document is the method — the steps. Hazards, consequence and residual risk for the same work are in the JHA library. A procedure is not a hazard analysis. A hazard analysis is not a procedure.
PROCEDURE
- 01
NAME IT
This table is nontypical — said on the SJP, said in the brief. If nobody can say why, it is not ready.
- 02
THE SPECIAL PLAN
Engineered handling plan for this table at the lift. Not a note in the margin of the typical drawing. Pick points, sling lengths, COG, extra tag lines, extra holds — as that plan.
- 03
THEN THE CYCLE
Do GOSPEL-SWP-028 on top of that plan. Gate, drop, roll, attach, fly, land. The crane still does not pull the table out.
- 04
STOP
Anyone treating it as a typical table, any missing pin, any change from the special plan — stop. Rewrite. Do not improvise a corner fly.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This program
The published method for the work. Stop-work is named in it. It does not own the site.
Supervisor
Confirms the plan, the crew, the zone and the stop criteria. Owns whether the hook moves.
Crane operator
Runs only the machine they are competent on, to the chart, after inspection. Stops on an unclear signal or a broken plan.
Rigger
Selects, inspects and applies the hitch. Does not guess weight, centre of gravity or angle.
Signalperson
One set of hands on the crane. Holds the zone. STOP means stop.
Worker
Works to this program and to site rules — whichever is stricter. Uses the three rights. Reports damaged gear.
Formwork supervisor (host)
Drops, rolls and lands the table to the manufacturer cycle and the engineered drawing. The crane crew does not lower jacks or invent a cycling sequence.
Prime contractor
Coordinates floors, drawings, inspections and exclusion. Not a spectator. WorkSafeBC names this duty on flytable work.
REQUIRED COMPETENCY
- Same as GOSPEL-SWP-028
- Can say why this table is not typical, and what the special plan changes
EQUIPMENT
- GOSPEL-SWP-028 equipment
- The special handling plan for this table
- GOSPEL-SJP-002 / FRM-052 marked nontypical
PPE
- Hard hat
- CSA-grade footwear
- High-visibility clothing
- Eye protection
- Task-rated gloves
- Hearing protection where required
- Fall protection where the work exposes a fall
PROHIBITED PRACTICES
- Flying a corner table on the typical SJP
- Guessing sling lengths because the typical table used them
- Skipping the extra tag line or spotter the special plan names
EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Same as GOSPEL-SWP-028. A nontypical table that starts to spin is a stop, not a recovery with more hoist.
