Aims
Prevent injury and occupational disease on crane and rigging work done to this program. Competent people on the machine. Back stop-work. Keep this program public so anyone on the lift can read it before the gate. OHS Regulation 3.3(a).
Commitment
This program names the instruction, supervision and backing. Production does not outrank the chart, the hitch, or the three rights.
Objectives
Every lift has a named competent person and a plan. Defects that affect lifting take the crane down the same hour. Incidents and near misses are reported the same shift. This program is reviewed at least annually. COR maintenance is submitted as BCCSA requires.
Scope
Applies to every crane operator, rigger, signalperson and lifting supervisor working to this program, and to every lift done under it.
Standard
Work is performed to Proven, applicable OHS law, CSA Z150 / Z248 as named, ASME B30 as named, the manufacturer, and the site. The stricter applicable requirement wins. Law always wins.
Review
This policy and this program are reviewed at least annually, and after a serious incident or a change in the named law. Next scheduled review 2027-09-01. The current version is the one on this site.
Open book
This program is public. It does not expire behind a form. Workers and clients can read it before the lift.
